This seems to be IE specific. Can the equivalent be programmed to work in Netscape

Cool! I learnt a lot. An innovative way to implement the file save using familiar controls.

Mack,

Part 3 of the article will feature HTAs.

You have to appreciate that we have a significant number of IE4 users, and we have to support them too, as also explore the new IE5 technologies. In order to keep both groups happy, the game will be published in two parts, the Player will be IE4 friendly, while the Level Designer will be an IE5 HTA.

Hope that satisfies you :-)

Alex,

Your Security settings are incorrect. You have chosen Custom settings for your security. If you want to see the dialog, choose View-Internet Options-security, and make sure the following settings are correct.

Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting - Enable.
Run ActiveX controls and Plugins - Enable.

I highly recommend that you do not use custom settings, but rather the default Medium or High levels.

Have fun,
Rajeev

Does the open file work for everybody? I am running IE5/W95. When I click the Load Data File, I don't get a file dialogue, but a script error -- Object doesn't support this property or method: CommonDialog1.FileTitle.

i would actually like to see these games released as IE5 HTML applications, too.  at least saving info to disk isn't as tough.
