SCRIPT

The SCRIPT element adds programming logic that is interpreted by the browser. The default language in both Explorer and Navigator is JScript/ JavaScript. However, in a compliant document, the default language should be specified with a META declaration in the head or as part of the http header. To specify javascript as the default language using the META element:

<META http-equiv="Content-Script-Type" content="text/javascript">

The alternative is to specify the language using the language or type attribute. The language attribute has been deprecated by the HTML recommendation and replaced by type. However, to ensure interoperability with legacy browsers, you should specify both the language and the type attributes. For example:
