The Wireless Internet
: | Wireless Internet BIG PROBLEMS!!! First, the setup here :
Cable internet 3 computers. 2 wireless, 1 wired to the router, which is connected to the modem.
router is a Netgear WGR614
Worked fine with great speeds and connection the last several months, but as of two weeks ago....Out of nowhere, it seems the wireless speeds have been cut BIGTIME. Download speeds used to be around 250-350 kb/sec....Now they are around 30-50 kb/sec, consistantly....No higher. And it is not the computers because it is BOTH of the computers that are wireless. Have called the internet service provider and they say everything is fine on their end. Told me to call Netgear. I did, and they led me through the power cycling, updating the router firmware, etc....To no avail. Still have the same speeds. Have cleaned the computer completely anyway, ran numerous spyware programs, etc....Computer is clean and the signal is great to the router, the speeds, only on the wireless computers, are complete crap though. Speed tests prove it. Same thing on both. However, when I plug the one computer into the router directly with an ethernet cable, the speeds are up to what is normal again ! Then I go wireless and BAM, it's like hitting a wall. Everything slows. Downloads, web page loading, etc. Any ideas of what is wrong here ?! It's like there is limitations placed on the wireless speeds or something. HELP !!!Started By beyondforever on Dec 1, 2006 at 1:16:05 PM | | | 3 Response(s) | Reply |

Most likely would be your router problem. bod1467 on Jan 3, 2007 at 7:26:55 AM (# 2)Might seem like an odd suggestion, but try changing the position of your router aerial a little. I have a Netgear DG834G and find that aerial position makes a big difference. Mine is parallel with the back of the router, and almost parallel with the floor but angled slightly up (maybe 30°). clintonkollman on Feb 7, 2012 at 10:40:18 PM (# 3)First it wil depend on what brand of router you are using. I use A Linksys router becuase it is reliable and the tech support is the best. Since Linksys routers have Firewall to protect you from outsiders you need to set certain ports to listening mode. That means you need to open ports that Xbox Live Server requires. Other brands of Router that doesn't have firewall doesn't need this. The ports are 53, 80, 88, and 3074. Since you are trying to make two Xbox consoles use those ports and you are trying to connect to a server, what you needto do is to use Port Range Triggering.
