: | Does such a tool exist? We have over 6000 clients across the US. They connect to centrally supplied applications using IE 6.0. Many sites have DSL connections, many are connected via satellite, and some are still using modems.
Occasionally, users report HTTP 4xx and 5xx error pages. To help us improve our user experience, we want to log all HTTP error pages encountered for break-fix analysis. We want the log to be located on the client PC; and want the log to include the HTTP status code, the target URL, and the referring URL (if applicable). We have the capability to pull the logs from the client PC as needed.
We want be able to deploy and administer the application from a central location. We want the application to be transparent to the users.
We want the cost of such a logging application to be inexpensive at an Enterprise level ($15 per PC has been declared to be too expensive).
I've Googled and Googled, and now I'm joining and posting to forums in the hopes that someone knows of a product or some script that I haven't found.
Thank you in advance for you help.Started By FuzzyBunnyFeet on Apr 26, 2007 at 9:48:30 AM | | | 3 Response(s) | Reply |

(I note you do say your central utility/site is for IE only). How would you guarantee that such an application would only log requests for pages that related to your utility? I would perceive such an application to be a significant breach of privacy and security. BachusII on Apr 26, 2007 at 2:53:59 PM (# 2)Wouldn't the logfiles of a proxy server work in these cases? All it has to do is log certain headers for 4xx and 5xx responses, and requesting IP addresses. (Would not work well with https traffic, come to think of it.) BikeRepairman on Apr 26, 2007 at 10:41:20 PM (# 3)A (transparent) proxy would do the trick, I think.
take a look at clarkconnect it's a complete gateway/proxy/firewall solution. You then need a computer which can handle the load. Depending on the amount of users simultaniously, fill it up with memory (1GB/100users and/or cpu's (4 maximum). The community edition is free to download. the commercial version is $75/$85 per year.
