 DVD Sound Problem

Hi! I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop that for the past few months has produced absolutely no sound when I play a DVD.

Every other type of sound, like AIM, MSN Messenger, songs, and the music videos and movies I've bought off of the iTunes store work perfectly. I use Windows Media Player (music and videos downloaded from the internet work there too, btw. It seems to just be when I pop in a DVD that sound fails). I've tried using iTunes to play DVDs, but I dunno how to switch. My friend tried to for me, but she says it's different from her Apple comp. In any case, I've tried system restore, downloading new DVD codecs, and going through the sound system settings to make sure nothings muted, but to no avail. It's getting really irritating, help!
