A question of languages...
Ok...I am faced with a dilemma. I am in the planning stages of what I am hoping will be a popular site once it is complete and I tell people about it.
I've asked a couple of people, and they think it's a good idea.
The question I have is this: I am most familiar with MS technologies (.NET). I am in the learning stages when it comes to PHP and PERL.
So I'm trying to figure out which direction to go, language (or technology) wise. Do I go with .NET, or do I try to do it in PHP or PERL?
I know I want to use MySQL as the backend.
I don't know if this is something I would host myself (I canceled my web domain that I had, and I need a new router so I can run DynDNS), but I think I know someone who might be interested in the concept. He has a site with a BBS message board. It's PHP on the backend (I'm pretty sure), and this site would probably also feed a fairly decent amount of traffic to his site every week (it would be a sub-site).
So, should I proceed, and do this in PHP/PERL, and maybe see if this guy wants to use the site, or should I go .NET, and see what happens? Started By Monte on Sep 9, 2010 at 10:28:36 AM |
