I am using a Verizon Sierra 595 Air Card with my laptop in my Motor Home. The area we are in only has National Access with Verizon, no Broadband. I can't get cable either. The National Access signal is weak at best. I have installed an antenna with a direct connect to my Air Card and it helps some. I get a lot of disconnects and the Air Card goes Dormant alot. I usually have to reboot to get going again. Does anybody have any ideas on how I can get better, faster service without buying a satellite dish?? Would a Repeater help? Is so what type/kind? A 66cm/2ft antenna has an amplification of 21dB (7x) and a 80cm/~3Ft has an amplification of 24dB (8x) We managed 8km/5mi.
Then put the antenna up as high as possible, so there is a clear line of sight to a ISP mast.
I'm not familiar with your card or provider. We use linksys accesspoints and a few Senao accesspoints. (both 100mW) Soon we start a test with Siemens industrial accesspoints. They're not cheap ~$1500,00 a piece but extremely powerfull; 1W(!!).
As I read it, you have a weak connection. a repeater is not your answer. A stronger accesspoint/antenna should do the trick.
